A recent discovery was Papillionaire bikes. I love their vintage styling and colours and the fact that they are not designed with lycra wearers in mind. In Queensland we don't seem to have the varied bike stores (or vintage style biking culture) that Sydney & Melbourne do. I have been to a number of cycle shops and can't shake the feeling that those working there are confused by my interest in town/urban vintage style bikes... how is it that someone is not interested in the 'lycra & latte' bike culture? Ahem. I'm sure it didn't help that I was test riding said bikes in a 60s mini dress and then on a separate occasion in short shorts. Ha. Anyway, there were a few options around and of course other options by way of shipping a bike I liked to the Sunshine State. But I have to say as an aside from the appearance of these bikes, I love the idea of supporting such a forward thinking and developing Australian based business and after test riding, they are seriously smart and easy to ride. I have a couple of vintage style bikes which I have featured in an earlier post, one an op shop find and another a roadside find. Let's just say they are 'spirited' at the best of times! I thought it was time I upgraded to something a bit more reliable so I recently purchased the Mixte in Cream. Now to consider cycling outfits to deter the Queensland heat.. I have been loving this blog and this quite appropriate post! http://lovelybike.blogspot.com.au/2010/07/cycling-in-heatwave-making-friends-with.html
